Sanlorenzo launches 50Steel superyacht powered by pioneering green methanol fuel-cell technology

Italian shipyard Sanlorenzo has launched its latest 50Steel superyacht, showcasing one of the most advanced sustainable marine technologies currently in operation within the industry.

The 50-metre vessel is equipped with a green methanol fuel-cell system designed to convert renewable methanol into hydrogen and subsequently into electrical energy, supplying the yacht’s onboard hotel functions with power while significantly reducing emissions.

Developed in collaboration with leading energy technology partners, the system allows the yacht to operate for extended periods at anchor with minimal environmental impact, marking a notable step towards cleaner operations in the superyacht sector.

The launch reinforces Sanlorenzo’s wider commitment to sustainability and innovation within yacht design, as the industry continues to explore alternative fuels and hybrid technologies in response to increasing environmental expectations.

The 50Steel represents one of the clearest examples yet of how next-generation superyachts are beginning to integrate low-emission systems without compromising onboard comfort or operational capability.
